چکیده
The application of stabilization technologies to a radiologically contaminated surface has the potential for reducing spread contamination and, as result, decreasing worker exposure radiation. Three technologies, calcium chloride (CaCl2), flame retardant Phos-Chek® MVP-Fx, and Soil2OTM were investigated evaluate their ability reduce resuspension tracking radiological during response activities such vehicle foot traffic. Concrete pavers, asphalt sandy soil walking paths used test surfaces, along with simulated fallout material (SFM) tagged radiostrontium (Sr-85) applied contaminant. Radiological measured using gamma spectrometry before after operation traffic experiments, conducted each technology without nonstabilized control. These measurements acquired separately combination vehicle/foot experiment. resulting data describes extent SFM removed from onto tires or boots, transferred adjacent residual remaining on boots type actions influenced results. For instance, when walked over, less than 2% particles concrete, 4% asphalt, 40% sand surface. By contrast, ~40% again sand, but 7% 15% concrete respectively. In most cases, did provide improved stabilization. improvement was related surface, actions, stabilizer; statistical analysis these variables is presented. Overall, results suggest an utilize planning implementation involving addition, aerosolizable range monitored path all stabilizing agents decreased radioactivity, decrease being 3 fold, whereas CaCl2 Phos-Chek MVP-Fx surfaces generated no detectable radioactivity. that availability respirable by workers under conditions.

The conspicuity of first-responder safety garments.
INTRODUCTION This study compared the conspicuity of three types of first-responder safety garments (NFPA 1971-2007 turnout gear coats, and ANSI/ISEA 107 and 207 safety vests). METHOD Participants drove instrumented vehicles on a closed track during both daytime and nighttime, indicating when they could first detect pedestrians in a simulated emergency response scene. Pedestrians wore one of t...

INTRODUCTION Clothing has two primary affects upon workers. First, it modifies the ease with which thermal energy (heat) is transferred between the body and the environment by providing the body with a layer of insulation. This can be advantageous in a thermally dangerous environment (e.g. fire fighting, cold-water immersion), but disadvantageous during strenuous exercise where a significant am...

Ensuring effective communications during emergencies is an important issue for any functional government. One way to address this issue is to ensure the availability of the key personnel capable of making the appropriate decisions and taking timely actions with sufficient resources. Patient safety within the Canadian healthcare system is currently a high national priority, which merits a comprehensive understanding of the underlying causes of adverse events. Not least among these is worker health and safety, which is linked to patient outcomes. Healthcare workers have a high risk of workplace injuries and more mental health problems than most other occupational groups. Man...
